The mating contacts are finished with 157.5 µinch (4.00 µm) of tin over the brass base material. Tin is a lower-cost alternative to gold and works well in applications with limited mating cycles — think a few hundred insertions over the product life, not thousands. The thickness here is on the high side for tin, which helps resist fretting corrosion in mildly corrosive environments. No gold on the post means no embrittlement risk during reflow.
