Contact plating and cycle life
In a field-service application where the connector is cycled quarterly, this is over a century of service life at the contact interface. The post (solder tail) is tin-plated at 59 µinch, which wets reliably during wave or hand soldering and provides a corrosion-resistant fillet on the through-hole joint.
Board retention and assembly
Board locks on the ends of the header anchor the component to the PCB during soldering and resist shear forces from cable strain after mating. The 3.20mm post length gives a through-hole solder joint that fills the barrel without excessive protrusion.
