What This TPA Does in the EXTreme Guardian System
The Molex 1510760012 is a Terminal Position Assurance (TPA) insert for the EXTreme Guardian 151076 series of power connectors. It is a 2-position accessory, moulded in black Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT), designed to lock into the EXTreme Guardian female housing after the crimp terminals are fully seated. The TPA acts as a secondary lock: it slides into a groove on the housing face and blocks the terminal retention lance from deflecting, so a partially seated or back-driven terminal cannot back out under vibration or cable strain. This is a standard feature on EXTreme Guardian housings that accept the TPA — the part number tells you it is the 2-circuit version, meaning it fits only a 2-position female housing, not a 4- or 6-position one.
Mating Fit — Which Housing It Goes Into
The 1510760012 TPA is designed for use with EXTreme Guardian female housings (the receptacle side of the wire-to-wire or wire-to-board system). It is not a universal fit across the whole series — the 2-position TPA matches only a 2-position female housing. The housing has a dedicated slot on the mating face that the TPA slides into after the terminals are loaded. If you are building a 2-circuit EXTreme Guardian harness, this is the TPA you need. For a 4- or 6-circuit harness, you would order the corresponding position-count TPA from the same 151076 series.
Installation Sequence
With the terminals fully seated, the TPA slides into the slot on the front of the housing until it clicks into place. The PBT material is stiff enough to hold the latch without creep over temperature, but the fit is snug — you should feel a positive stop when it is fully home. There is no tool required; finger pressure is sufficient. Once installed, the TPA prevents the terminal retention lances from being depressed, so the terminals cannot be removed without first removing the TPA. This is the standard sequence for any EXTreme Guardian TPA-equipped housing.
