The 389690006 at a glance
The Molex 389690006 is the 6-circuit member of the 38969 barrier terminal block series, rated 50 A per circuit at 600 V in a 0.500-inch (12.70 mm) single-row pitch. Black PBT housing carries a UL94 V-0 flammability rating across an operating range of -40 °C to 120 °C, with nickel-plated steel terminal screws and a tri-wall barrier geometry.
Termination and board fit
Top termination uses screws with a captive plate that holds the wire in place when the screw is loosened — the plate does not fall out, which matters in the field when a conductor needs re-terminating without dropping a hardware component into the enclosure. Bottom termination is a through-hole PC pin sized for solder insertion; the 6-position single-row layout at 0.500-inch pitch gives a board footprint wide enough for hand soldering or wave solder operations. Wire entry accepts 8–20 AWG solid or stranded conductors — the range covers heavy harness wire down to control-level leads. Six wire entries match the six circuits, so each position has a dedicated entry point with no shared common bus geometry to work around.
What the current rating means
50 A per circuit is the headline figure, but the tri-wall barrier geometry and PBT housing thermal limit are what actually govern continuous duty. At full load the housing temperature rise sits inside the 120 °C operating ceiling, so the connector is suited for panel-distribution bus bars and motor branch circuits where sustained current through the barrier is the design constraint — not intermittent signal switching. The nickel-plated steel screw finish resists the mild corrosion that can lift contact resistance on an unplated termination under long-term load.
