What this header is and where it sits in the Sabre series
The Molex 431604304 is the 4-position member of the Sabre 43160 series — a single-row power header family pitched at 7.50 mm, rated 600 V with through-hole solder termination. Four circuits at 18 A per contact gives a compact footprint for wire-to-board power distribution where board space and voltage isolation both matter. The housing is glass-filled PA46/Nylon 4/6 in black, rated for operation from -40°C to 75°C.
What the ratings mean for your selection
Board lock and locking ramp together solve a problem plain friction-fit headers create during wave or hand-solder: the board lock shoulder seats into the PCB hole and holds vertical registration during thermal excursion, while the locking ramp on the housing body gives the mating receptacle something to click into so it cannot walk loose under vibration. Both features are molded into the header itself — no separate clip to assemble. The 75 °C upper operating limit is governed by the housing material, not the contact. If the header sits in an enclosed panel with nearby heat sources, derate the current per the connector derating curve in the Molex Sabre 43160 product drawing — the spec table alone does not show the curve. The -40 °C rating covers industrial cold-store and outdoor-equipment environments without qualification issues.
Mating and termination
The 431604304 mates with the matching Sabre 43160 receptacle housing — verify the polarity keying configuration matches the harness routing before locking in the BOM line. Termination is through-hole solder, which means it will reflow as a through-hole part during SMT assembly if the paste volume and pad size are dialed in for the 7.50 mm pitch. The brass contact material accepts standard SnCuNi solder alloy without special flux or preheat concerns.
