Panduit Pan-Term PV18 Vinyl-Insulated Terminals and Pan-Lug Compression Lugs Q3 2026 Supply: Industrial Control Panel, Solar Combiner Box, and EV DC Fast Charger Cabling Buyer Sourcing Patterns

Q3 2026 buyers of Pan-Term PV18 vinyl-insulated ring terminals and Pan-Lug compression lugs are running into 14-22 week lead times on common wire ranges as Panduit shifts DeKalb production capacity toward Fault Managed Power Gen 2 and copper bar assemblies. This guide explains which solar combiner box, EV DC fast charger, and UL 508A industrial panel builder buyers are working through independent channels right now, what the catalog SKUs cover in our inventory, and how to spec cross-references to Phoenix Contact and Weidmüller alternatives without derating the panel.

A panel shop buyer opens his RFQ and finds a 22-week wait on a 22-18 AWG red ring terminal

On 28 August 2026 we took a phone call from a UL 508A panel builder in Guadalajara. He was finishing three skid-mounted motor control centers for a Tier-1 food and beverage integrator, and his procurement team had just hit a 22-week quoted lead time on Panduit Pan-Term PV18-6R-CY ring terminals, the standard red insulated 22-18 AWG ring with a #6 stud. The same MPN had walked off the shelf in 4 weeks eighteen months earlier.

That phone call is the entry point for this article. PV18 and the related Pan-Lug compression lug family are not glamorous products, but they sit at the end of every wire harness that leaves a North American or European control panel, and they have been pulled into the same allocation pressure wave that is squeezing power connectors and waterproof connectors in Q3 2026 (openPR, 24 August 2026; openPR, 28 August 2026). For buyers at independent-distribution desks who are looking at industrial panel work, solar combiner box wiring, and the cabling side of EV DC fast charger stations, the question is no longer whether Panduit will ship in standard lead time. It is how to cover the gap with what the catalog can actually supply today, what cross-references are safe on a UL 508A panel without redoing the temperature-rise calculation, and where the PV18 / Pan-Lug allocation is most likely to bite in your specific build.

What the market is doing right now

Three signals converged in August 2026 to change how Pan-Term and Pan-Lug buyers should plan their Q3-Q4 builds.

1. Power connector demand has shifted upstream of the panel. OpenPR's 24 August 2026 market brief on the power connector segment tracks double-digit YoY growth driven by data center power distribution, EV fast charger cabinets, and industrial inverter retrofits, with lead times on common PCB terminal block families pushing out across multiple manufacturers (openPR, 24 August 2026). PV18 and Pan-Lug sit one layer downstream — they land the power that the PCB terminal blocks distribute — so when the upstream terminal block build stretches, the strain translates into bigger PV18 orders for the wire-side terminations that feed those blocks.

2. EV DC fast charger wiring kits are absorbing Pan-Lug capacity. A 3 September 2026 buyer's guide to top EV charger manufacturers in China catalogued the explosion of OCPP-certified 30 kW to 360 kW DC fast charger cabinets entering the global market, with multiple vendors specifying compression lugs in the 4/0 AWG to 350 kcmil range for the DC bus and chassis ground paths (nerdbot, 3 September 2026). A large share of those cabinets terminate the DC output through NEMA-drilled two-hole Pan-Lug LCA series lugs, and the supply chain for that cable size has tightened in parallel with the chassis copper demand.

3. The harness assembly buyer pool in China is also drawing on the same stock. The 2 September 2026 EIN News feature on five reputable China-based harness assembly operations tracked a similar surge in Pan-Term PV and Pan-Lug demand for off-highway, agricultural, and two-wheeler EV harnesses, with manufacturers explicitly flagging 14-22 week lead times on common wire ranges (EIN News, 2 September 2026). When Chinese harness shops are quoting Panduit-class lead times in addition to JST JWPF, Molex MX150, and TE Deutsch sealed connector allocation, that is the clearest signal we have that PV18 / Pan-Lug is in a multi-quarter tight market.

4. Panduit's own product mix is shifting. Panduit announced on 1 June 2026 that the Fault Managed Power System Gen 2 cabinet program is expanding across enterprise environments, with new cabinet capacity going into the same DeKalb tooling lines that historically built PV18, PV14, and Pan-Lug LCA copper compression lugs (PR Newswire, 1 June 2026). That announcement did not say PV18 was being de-prioritized, but in practice we have seen our DeKalb-origin PV18-6R, PV18-10R, and PV18-14R SKUs move from 4-week to 14-22 week quotes on common stud sizes since the second week of July 2026.

The catalog depth that backs this article

Our catalog for this article is anchored on three families that we stock and ship from our China sourcing desk and Hong Kong bonded warehouse, all carrying the same NEMA color code, UL 486A-B listing, and CSA certification that the original Panduit catalog carries.

Pan-Term PV18 (22-18 AWG, red insulation) — the workhorse ring, fork, butt splice, and disconnect family. Wire range 22-18 AWG, copper conductor, PVC vinyl insulation, electro-tin plating on the terminal body, UL Listed and CSA Certified for stranded copper wire up to 600 V maximum and 75 °C (167 °F) continuous service (the higher-temperature PV18-38R and PV18-56R variants carry the 105 °C / 221 °F rating). The red insulation sleeve is the visual anchor on a panel — every UL 508A inspector recognizes the color code as the 22-18 AWG class. SKUs that move most often on our desk: PV18-6R-CY (ring, #6 stud), PV18-8R-CY (ring, #8 stud), PV18-10R-CY (ring, #10 stud), PV18-6FB-3K (fork, #6 stud, bulk), PV18-56RB-2K (butt splice, bulk), PV18-6F-CY (female disconnect, fully insulated). NEMA standard stud sizes we stock on PV18 series: #6, #8, #10, 1/4 inch, 5/16 inch, 3/8 inch.

Pan-Term PV14 (16-14 AWG, blue insulation) — the second-most-common Pan-Term wire range. Same construction (PVC insulation, tin-plated copper, UL 486A-B listed), 600 V, 75 °C, blue color code for the 16-14 AWG class. Stock SKUs: PV14-6R-CY (ring, #6 stud), PV14-8R-CY, PV14-10R-CY, PV14-14R-CY, PV14-6FN-MY (nylon fully-insulated female disconnect), PV14-56RB-2K, PV14-38RB-2K. We also carry the right-angle PV14-10R-LY variant for tight control cabinet layouts.

Pan-Lug LCA / LCC / LCD compression lug family — the high-current lug line. Wrought high-conductivity copper, electro-tin plated, UL Listed and CSA Certified for copper cable only, with both one-hole and two-hole NEMA-drilled versions. The series we stock spans #14 AWG through 500 kcmil cable range, stud sizes from #10 through 1/2 inch, and includes the standard barrel inspection window that lets a UL 508A inspector confirm full cable insertion without stripping the lug. Two-hole NEMA-drilled versions (LCD series) carry the standard 1-3/4 inch hole spacing required by NEMA CC-1 for proper cable termination on UL 891 switchboards. The 90-degree flag-style LCAF series is what most EV DC fast charger integrators specify for the negative DC bus landing on the contactor.

Across these three families, our active SKU count is wide enough to cover an entire UL 508A industrial control panel BOM without re-spec'ing the Panduit catalog to a different vendor. MOQ is one bag or one piece, with bulk pricing kicking in at the standard Panduit 100-piece reel count for the Pan-Term ring and fork lines.

How Q3 2026 buyers are using the inventory

Three buyer patterns are showing up in our RFQ log this quarter.

Industrial control panel builders (UL 508A, NFPA 79) are pulling PV18 and PV14 red and blue ring terminals in 5,000- to 20,000-piece reels to cover multi-month skid production. The 75 °C continuous / 600 V rating matches the panel rating on every mainstream motor starter and terminal block, so there is no engineering rework to absorb. The bottleneck is the #6, #8, and #10 stud sizes — not the unusual stud sizes — because those are the ones that land on Allen-Bradley, Siemens, and Schneider terminal block mounting holes. Our current lead time on PV18-6R-CY out of Hong Kong is 6-9 business days for stock SKUs, against the 14-22 week DeKalb factory quote.

Solar combiner box OEM wiring kit integrators are ordering Pan-Lug LCA two-hole NEMA-drilled compression lugs in the 2 AWG to 4/0 AWG range for the DC string landings, plus PV18 and PV14 ring terminals for the string fuses and DC disconnect wiring inside the NEMA 4 combiner enclosures. The two-hole LCB and LCD series with the 1-3/4 inch NEMA spacing is what every UL 1741 combiner design specifies because the inspector will reject a one-hole lug on the combiner box grounding bar. Lead times on the LCA4/0-12-X two-hole 4/0 AWG lug and the LCD2-12-B two-hole 2 AWG lug are running 8-14 weeks factory-direct; we keep both in stock at the China desk.

EV DC fast charger cabinet builders are the heaviest draw on Pan-Lug right now. A 350 kW liquid-cooled DC fast charger typically carries four to eight 4/0 AWG to 350 kcmil compression lugs for the positive and negative DC bus landings between the power module stack and the dispenser cable, plus a parallel set of 2 AWG to 4/0 AWG lugs for chassis ground. The LCAF90 flag lug family is what most contactor and bus bar layouts need because the cable drops in from the top of the cabinet and a straight barrel would force the wire to bend. We have seen buyers default to LCAF4/0-12-X for the dispenser cable positive and negative runs and LCA350-38-X for the AC input landings. MOQ on the heavy Pan-Lug SKUs is one piece at our desk; the factory minimum is 25 pieces with a 12-week lead time.

Cross-references that work without derating the panel

The honest answer on cross-references is that Pan-Term PV18 is a mature commodity and most UL-listed manufacturers build to the same UL 486A-B standard, but the engineering reviewer should still verify three things before swapping: stud hole dimensional fit on the terminal block, insulation wall thickness for the panel's bend radius, and barrel seam orientation on the crimp die.

For Pan-Term PV18 (red, 22-18 AWG): Thomas & Betts (now ABB) Sta-Kon RA series ring terminals in the red 22-18 AWG class carry the same UL 486A-B listing, the same 600 V / 75 °C rating, and the same NEMA color code. Morris 3M Highland red rings are interchangeable for the stud sizes we stock. The Phoenix Contact C-RCI 1.5 ring series is the spec-equivalent for projects that already use Phoenix Contact terminal blocks, with the advantage of matched packaging and crimp die. None of these cross-references change the panel's temperature-rise calculation or the UL 5078A inspection outcome. For Weidmüller buyers, the WTD-series 22-18 AWG ring is dimensionally compatible on the #6, #8, and #10 stud sizes and carries the same UL listing.

For Pan-Term PV14 (blue, 16-14 AWG): The same cross-reference logic applies — Thomas & Betts RA blue series, Morris 3M Highland blue series, Phoenix Contact C-RCI 2.5 blue series, and Weidmüller WTD-series 16-14 AWG blue rings. For 16-14 AWG fork terminals, the Phoenix Contact C-FCI 2.5 fork is the spec-equivalent and shares the same NEMA color code.

For Pan-Lug LCA / LCB / LCD compression lugs: Cross-references are more delicate because the NEMA hole spacing on two-hole lugs is not standardized across all manufacturers at every cable size. The verified cross-reference for LCA and LCB one-hole and two-hole lugs is the Burndy YA series (one-hole YA-LB and two-hole YA-2LB NEMA-drilled versions) on the most common cable sizes from 2 AWG through 500 kcmil. For the EV DC fast charger flag lug LCAF90 family, the verified cross-reference is the Burndy YA-FY series flag lug in the same cable range. The ILSCO CLND series two-hole NEMA-drilled compression lug is also spec-equivalent for the 1-3/4 inch hole spacing pattern. We do not recommend cross-referencing on the 90-degree flag lug family to a vendor that is not on the same UL 486A-B listing without re-doing the panel inspection.

For UL 1741 solar combiner box builds specifically: the AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) inspector typically accepts the Burndy YA or ILSCO CLND cross-reference on the DC string landings because both carry UL 486B and the same NEMA hole pattern. The inspector does not accept a third-party cross-reference on the equipment grounding lug unless it is UL 467 listed for direct burial and bonding.

What we can ship from stock and what still requires a factory order

To set expectations honestly: this article is not a claim that every Panduit PV18 and Pan-Lug SKU ships in 4 weeks. It is a map of where the catalog depth lets an independent channel cover a Q3 2026 build, and where the buyer still has to plan around factory lead times.

From stock at our desk (typical lead time 6-12 business days to a North American or European buyer, with air freight):

  • PV18-6R-CY, PV18-8R-CY, PV18-10R-CY (22-18 AWG ring, #6/#8/#10 stud)
  • PV18-6FB-3K, PV18-6FN-MY, PV18-6F-CY (22-18 AWG fork and disconnect)
  • PV18-56RB-2K, PV18-38RB-2K (22-18 AWG butt splice, red)
  • PV14-6R-CY, PV14-8R-CY, PV14-10R-CY, PV14-14R-CY (16-14 AWG ring, #6 to #14 stud)
  • PV14-56RB-2K, PV14-38RB-2K (16-14 AWG butt splice, blue)
  • LCA2-12-X, LCA4-12-X, LCA2/0-12-X, LCA4/0-12-X (Pan-Lug one-hole 2 AWG through 4/0 AWG, 1/2 inch stud)
  • LCD2-12-B, LCD4-12-B, LCD2/0-12-B, LCD4/0-12-B (Pan-Lug two-hole 2 AWG through 4/0 AWG, 1/2 inch stud, 1-3/4 inch NEMA spacing)
  • LCAF4/0-12-X, LCAF350-38-X (Pan-Lug flag lug, 4/0 AWG and 350 kcmil, for DC fast charger dispenser cabling)

From factory order (typical 12-22 week lead time, with the option to air-freight partial shipments):

  • PV10 yellow 12-10 AWG ring and fork SKUs (PV10-6R-LY, PV10-10R-LY, PV10-6FB-3K)
  • Heavy Pan-Lug SKUs above 350 kcmil (LCA500-38-X, LCA750-1/2-X)
  • LCA narrow-tongue and right-angle variants for tight cabinet layouts
  • Pan-Lug with special plating (silver, nickel) for harsh-environment or marine builds

If your build is a UL 508A panel with a standard Panduit BOM and the lead times above do not work, send us the BOM and we will quote a split shipment — Pan-Term and small Pan-Lug from stock now, heavy Pan-Lug from factory with a partial air-freight release. The independent desk exists precisely for this kind of split inventory problem.

The honest boundary on what an independent distributor can do

We do not claim to be a substitute for the factory-direct Panduit channel. A buyer who needs a 250-piece release of LCA750-1/2-X for a utility-scale solar combiner build with a 16-week project deadline should also get a factory quote and weigh the independent-channel option against it. What we do offer is a workable path when the factory quote is 18-22 weeks and the BOM has the PV18, PV14, and small-to-medium Pan-Lug at the heart of the build: those are the SKUs that move through the independent channel most cleanly, because the catalog depth at our sourcing desk matches the NEMA color code and stud pattern on the panel drawing without re-spec work. MOQ is one piece or one bag. The buyer can also pull a Burndy YA cross-reference from the same desk in parallel and compare both quotes before committing.

For the EV DC fast charger buyer, the independent desk also has the advantage of being able to ship the LCAF flag lug family in small batches as the cabinet design firms up — the typical 350 kW cabinet design goes through two or three contactor and bus bar revisions before the BOM is locked, and a 25-piece MOQ at the factory is awkward for that workflow. The independent channel can ship 4 pieces at a time against a confirmed engineering drawing.

For the UL 1741 solar combiner box buyer, the independent channel can also cover the AHJ inspection scenario: when the inspector flags a missing 1-3/4 inch NEMA-spacing lug, the desk can ship a same-week LCD2-12-B or LCD4/0-12-B and keep the combiner commissioning date on track.

For the UL 508A industrial panel builder, the desk can run a same-day quote against the panel BOM and ship a 6-9 business day air-freight release on every stock SKU, which is what unblocks the motor control center build the buyer called us about on 28 August. The 22-week DeKalb quote was the right answer for a factory-direct release; it was not the right answer for a Q3 delivery.

Closing the loop on a 22-week quote

The Guadalajara panel builder got his 12,000 PV18-6R-CY in two air-freight releases, his 6,000 PV18-10R-CY in a third release, and his 8,000 PV14-6R-CY in a fourth release, all shipped from our Hong Kong bonded warehouse to Laredo in under ten business days. His motor control centers shipped on the original Q3 schedule. His procurement team kept the original Panduit part numbers on the panel drawings and the UL 508A inspection closed without a single cross-reference note.

That is what an independent sourcing desk is for. When the factory-direct quote is 22 weeks on a commodity red ring terminal, the right answer is not to swap vendors. The right answer is to source the same Panduit catalog from a channel that has inventory depth at the stud sizes you need, ships the MOQ you actually need, and lets the inspector close the panel without seeing a difference between your drawing and the installed product. We will quote any Pan-Term PV or Pan-Lug BOM the same day the RFQ lands, with split-shipment options that let you cover the Q3 build from stock and the Q4 build from factory on the same purchase order.
