SMP Receptacle for 30 GHz Signal Paths
The Hirose SMP-PR(LD)-SMT-1(01) is an SMP receptacle with a male pin centre contact, designed for 50 Ohm RF interconnects up to 30 GHz. The limited detent feature gives a lower insertion and withdrawal force than a full-detent SMP, making this the version typically used for board-to-board or blind-mate applications where the connector pair is not frequently unmated.
What the 30 GHz and 500-Cycle Ratings Mean for Your Design
The 30 GHz max frequency sets the usable bandwidth — the connector will pass a 30 GHz carrier with a controlled impedance transition. Below that frequency, the VSWR and insertion loss are dominated by the PCB launch, not the connector body. The 500 mating cycles rating is the mechanical endurance limit for the gold-on-gold contact interface; after that, the plating wear can increase contact resistance and degrade passive intermodulation performance. For a test-fixture or production-tester interconnect that cycles daily, this part is sized for several years of service before contact replacement.
Limited Detent vs Full Detent — Which SMP Variant Is This?
SMP connectors come in three detent strengths: full detent (high retention, used on cable jacks), limited detent (medium retention, used on board-mount receptacles), and smooth bore (no detent, used for push-on test adapters). The SMP-PR(LD)-SMT-1(01) is the limited detent variant, which means it mates with a full-detent SMP plug with a defined insertion force and releases with a lower pull force than a full-detent-to-full-detent pair.
