SMP Jack for RG-405 — 50 Ohm, DC to 40 GHz
The Molex 0734153031 is an SMP-series jack (female socket) from the 73415 family, designed for use with RG-405 (.086 inch semi-rigid) coaxial cable. It is a right-angle, free-hanging (in-line) connector — the body routes the cable at 90 degrees to the mating axis, which helps in tight enclosures where a straight plug would not fit. Rated at 50 Ohms nominal impedance with a frequency ceiling of 40 GHz, this connector sits at the upper end of the SMP interface capability — most SMP connectors top out between 26.5 and 40 GHz. The 40 GHz rating means it can carry Ku-band, K-band, and Ka-band signals without significant roll-off, making it suitable for microwave test points, phased-array modules, and high-speed digital backplanes where the signal path must stay clean into the millimeter-wave range. Beryllium copper gives the snap-on retention fingers the spring memory to hold repeated mate cycles without taking a set, while the full gold finish resists corrosion in lab, field, or outdoor cabinet environments.
Cable Prep and Termination
This connector terminates to RG-405 (.086 semi-rigid) cable. The included end cap slides over the cable jacket and is soldered or crimped to complete the shield termination and anchor the cable against pull-out. The snap-on fastening type (no threads) allows quick blind-mate engagement — the SMP interface uses a spring-loaded outer sleeve that clicks into place on the mating plug. Disengagement requires a tool or a firm axial pull; the retention force is set by the beryllium copper fingers, so the connector stays mated under moderate vibration but can be unmated for rework or test reconfiguration.
