What this connector is
The Samtec 78511-208 is the 8-circuit member of the BERGSTIK II series — a single-row, unshrouded board-to-board header with square-pin through-hole terminations. Push-pull fastening gives basic friction-lock retention without a latch clip, which is typical for this series and sufficient for most board-stacking or daughter-card interconnects where the mated pair is not expected to see repeated unmating under load.
Ratings that drive the fit
The 0.100" (2.54 mm) pitch from drops onto a standard 0.100" hole pattern. Eight positions at 5 A per contact from and means each circuit carries its rated load — the phosphor bronze base material from limits current at elevated temperature. The 15.0 µin (0.38 µm) gold plating from and is the GXT grade — harder gold alloy, better than flash for repeated mating cycles, but still tin-compatible for the field. Insulation height of 0.100" (2.54 mm) sets the board-stack stand-off; the overall contact length of 0.538" (13.67 mm) and post length of 0.120" (3.05 mm) together tell you how much lead projects below the board — relevant for wave-solder process clearance and for whether a back-panel mounting boss will interfere. UL94 V-0 rated housing means the insulator survives the solder reflow profile without dripping, and the -65 to 125 °C operating window covers automotive under-hood, industrial control, and most telecom outdoor enclosures without a derating penalty on the connector itself.
Mating and sourcing
This is the pin header half — it mates with any 0.100" pitch, single-row receptacle or IDC socket with the matching 8-circuit count. Verify the receptacle's polarization and keying: unshrouded BERGSTIK II pins offer no foolproof anti-misorientation feature, so alignment pins on the socket housing or a silkscreen fiducial are the usual defence against rotation error on a symmetric 1-row part.
