What this header is and where it sits in the BERGSTIK II series
The Amphenol FCI 87900-142HLF is the 42-circuit dual-row member of the BERGSTIK II board-to-board header series. It carries a 0.100-inch (2.54 mm) pitch throughout, two rows on 0.100-inch spacing, and accepts a matching 0.100-inch pitch receptacle across its full 42-position face. The contacts are square male pins in phosphor bronze, gold-over-nickel plated to 30 µin (0.76 µm) on the mating face, and all 42 positions are populated. Rated 5 A per circuit at up to 110 V, it terminates via through-hole solder legs with a post length of 0.120 inch (3.05 mm) — enough depth for a standard PCB land pattern on most industrial control boards. The push-pull fastening type means it seats by hand and holds via friction/latch; it is unshrouded, so mis-mate protection on the board side depends entirely on the mating receptacle's sidewalls. Insulation body is black, 0.100 inch (2.54 mm) tall, and carries a UL94 V-0 flammability rating.
Mating half and termination realities
This is a male pin header — it requires a matching dual-row 0.100-inch pitch female receptacle or IDC socket to complete the board-to-board link. The 0.720-inch (18.29 mm) engagement length on the mating face gives the contact beam substantial wipe and retention, but because the header is unshrouded, the receptacle's shroud or side-latch is the sole structural defence against vibration pull-out on the assembly floor. The 0.100-inch insulation height matches the board stand-off most industrial ctrl-AO modules target, keeping the mated stack flush without a tall backshell. Through-hole solder termination is the right choice for panels that need the header to carry any mechanical load after reflow — the through-leg footprint anchors the part before the board goes into service.
