The Amphenol 031-6-RFX is a BNC cap (cover) designed to protect unmated BNC jacks from dust, debris, and incidental contact. It is built with a zinc die cast body finished in nickel, giving it the same RF-shielding character as the connector it covers. A silver exterior matches the standard BNC jack finish. The cap includes a chain tether so it stays attached to the cable or panel when removed — a detail that matters in field-service racks where loose caps get lost. It ships in bulk packaging and is intended for use with standard BNC jacks.
Compatibility — Which BNC Jacks It Fits
This cap is specified for use with BNC jacks. The BNC bayonet interface is a standard 50-ohm form factor, so the cap will physically mate with any standard BNC jack — male or female, panel-mount or PCB-mount, 50-ohm or 75-ohm — as long as the jack has the standard BNC outer shell. It does not terminate the signal; it covers the open port. For a cap that also shorts the centre contact, see the 031-17, which adds a brass centre contact with silver finish.
Construction and Finish
The body is zinc die cast with a nickel finish — the same material and plating used on many BNC connector bodies. Zinc die cast gives a dense, non-porous shell that holds the bayonet grooves without wear. Nickel plating resists corrosion and maintains a consistent ground path when the cap is seated. The chain is attached to the cap body, not the jack, so it swings free when the cap is off.
