The crimp shield termination requires the correct hex die for RG-58 braid diameter — using the wrong die can deform the ferrule and change the impedance at the termination point. The solder contact means the center pin is hand-soldered to the signal conductor; a cold joint or excess solder wicking up the dielectric will shift the 50 Ohm line. For field-service techs, the threaded fastening provides a vibration-resistant mate that the bayonet-lock BNC cannot match in high-shock environments.

The 031-6921 mounts through a panel with a front-side nut and is spec'd for LMR-240 cable group, not RG-58. If the BOM calls for a panel-feedthrough TNC on LMR-240, the 031-6921 is the correct jack; the 031-6923 is the free-hanging plug for the RG-58 cable assembly that mates to it.
