The contact and shield are both crimp-terminated, which gives a consistent, gas-tight connection without solder. The PTFE dielectric holds the impedance steady through the termination zone, so the 75 Ohm line doesn't see a bump at the connector.
What the 75 Ohm and 18 GHz ratings mean on the bench
The 18 GHz bandwidth is unusually high for a 75 Ohm BNC; most 75 Ohm BNCs top out around 4 GHz. That headroom means it handles UHD-SDI signals or multi-Gbps data without rolling off the high end. The 500-cycle mating life comes from the gold-over-phosphor bronze centre contact — the gold plating resists oxidation through repeated connect/disconnect cycles in field-service or test-rack use.
