UHF Plug for RG-8 and RG-213 Coax
The Amphenol 083-1SPB-15RFX is a UHF-series plug, widely known as a PL-259, designed for terminating large-diameter coaxial cables such as RG-8, RG-213, and RG-214. The connector uses solder termination for both the centre conductor and the shield, with a silver-plated brass centre pin and a nickel-plated brass body. Rated for 500 V and a maximum frequency of 300 MHz, it is suited for HF and low-VHF radio applications, antenna feeds, and test equipment.
This plug accepts cables in the RG-8, 8A, 9, 9A, 9B, 87, 213, 214, 225, 302, and 393 group. The centre conductor is soldered into a solder cup, and the shield braid is soldered to the body — a standard field-service method that gives a reliable electrical and mechanical connection. The phenolic dielectric insulates the centre pin and maintains the non-constant impedance characteristic typical of UHF connectors.
500 Mating Cycles and Threaded Coupling
The silver centre contact plating offers low contact resistance but can tarnish over time; for long-term installations in clean indoor environments this is not a concern.
