Product details

75 Ohm SMB Mini Jack for RG-179 — Field Termination Kit

The body is machined brass with gold finish, and the centre contact is also gold-plated brass. The PTFE dielectric maintains stable impedance across that temperature band.

This jack is specified for cable groups RG-179 and RG-187 — both 75 Ohm miniature coax types with a nominal diameter around 2.5 mm (0.098 in). The shield termination is crimp, and the centre contact termination is also crimp, using the included contact and ferrule. The heat shrink tubing slides over the ferrule and cable jacket after crimping to seal the termination against moisture and strain. Because this is a jack (female outer shell, male centre pin), it mates with any SMB plug that has a female centre socket and snap-on latch. The 75 Ohm impedance must be matched end-to-end — mating a 75 Ohm jack to a 50 Ohm plug creates a reflection at the interface that degrades signal integrity above a few hundred MHz.

75 Ohm vs 50 Ohm — Why It Matters

The 142194 is a 50 Ohm SMB plug (female socket) with solder centre contact and crimp shield, also a kit but with an end cap instead of a connector body. It is the mating half for a 50 Ohm system, not a cross-shop alternative for this 75 Ohm jack.

Frequently asked questions
