What This 75 Ohm F-Type Plug Does That a 50 Ohm One Won't
The Amphenol RF 222117 is an F-type plug with a 75 Ohm impedance — the standard for video, satellite, and broadband CATV distribution, not the 50 Ohm used in telecom or test gear. If your BOM calls for 75 Ohm and you drop in a 50 Ohm N-type or TNC, the mismatch will reflect signal at the interface. The brass body with nickel finish handles the corrosion exposure typical in outdoor CATV pedestals and satellite dish cable runs.
Cable Fit — RG-59 and the Rest of the List
The 222117 is specced for RG-59, RG-59B, RG-62, RG-140, RG-210, and Belden 8241, 8263, 8279, 9209. That covers the common 75 Ohm coax for CCTV, composite video, and satellite IF loops. The crimp ferrule grabs the braid and jacket; the centre pin captures the solid or stranded centre conductor. If you are terminating RG-6 (a different cable group), this part is not the right fit — the dielectric diameter and braid coverage differ enough that the crimp won't hold the pull-test numbers.
The 222117 is a 75 Ohm F-type plug. The 172142 is an N-type plug at 50 Ohm, rated to 11 GHz; the 122108 is a TNC plug at 50 Ohm, also 11 GHz. The difference is not just the connector style — the 222117 tops out at 2 GHz, which is fine for satellite IF (950-2150 MHz) and cable broadband, but not for the higher-frequency RF links those 50 Ohm connectors serve. If your system is 50 Ohm, the 222117 is the wrong impedance regardless of cable fit.
