The contact termination is solder for the centre pin, and the shield is crimped onto the cable braid. This is the standard field-termination method for semi-rigid and flexible coax: the centre conductor solders into the beryllium copper contact, and the crimp barrel secures the shield, providing both mechanical strain relief and a consistent ground path. The dielectric is PTFE, which provides a stable dielectric constant and low loss up to 20 GHz.
Cable Group and Termination Fit
This SMA jack is specified for cable group RTK 044. That is a specific coaxial cable construction — typically a 0.085-inch semi-rigid or a flexible cable with a 0.044-inch centre conductor. Before ordering, confirm that your cable's outer diameter and dielectric diameter match the RTK 044 dimensions; the crimp shield and solder contact are sized to that cable group. Using the wrong cable group will result in poor shield termination and impedance mismatch. The threaded fastening type provides a secure, vibration-resistant mate. The coupling nut on the mating plug must be torqued to the recommended value to achieve the rated 20 GHz performance and 500-cycle durability.
