MMCX Jack for RF Board-Edge Launch
The Amphenol RF 908-22109 is a 50 Ohm MMCX jack (female socket) from the MicroMate™ series, designed for surface-mount board-edge RF connections. It carries a 6 GHz frequency ceiling, making it suitable for WiFi (2.4/5 GHz), Bluetooth, GPS, and lower microwave bands. The snap-on fastening type gives a quick, positive mate without threads — the gold-on-gold contact interface (gold body finish, gold center contact plating) supports 500 mating cycles before the specified contact resistance drift.
Board Layout: SMT Footprint and Ground Pad
This is a surface-mount part with the shield termination soldered directly to the PCB ground plane. The center contact and outer shield both terminate via solder — no through-hole posts. For best return loss, keep the trace width and ground clearance on the top layer matched to the 50 Ohm target for the board stack-up.
Mating and Cable Assembly Fit
The 908-22109 mates with any standard MMCX male plug (typically on a semi-rigid or flexible coax cable assembly). The snap-on retention is the defining interface — no coupling nut, just push to mate, pull to release. The female socket accepts the male centre pin; the gold-on-beryllium copper centre contact gives good spring retention over the 500-cycle life. For a cable assembly, pair this jack with an MMCX male plug terminated to RG-178, RG-316, or similar 50 Ohm coax. The single-port configuration means one RF channel per connector.
