The ferrule in this kit is sized for RG-174, RG-188A, RG-316, LMR-100, and M17/119-RG174. The male pin accepts the centre conductor of the listed cables.
How It Compares to Other RF Connectors
Compared to the SMA plug 901-9881-RFX, which also handles RG-174 and RG-316 cables, the 919-386P-51S uses a snap-on rather than threaded coupling. The MCX plug is physically smaller — the outer diameter of the mating face is about 4.5 mm versus roughly 6.5 mm for SMA — and the snap-on mate is faster for production cable assemblies. The trade-off is the 6 GHz bandwidth versus the 12.4 GHz of the SMA version; above 6 GHz the MCX interface starts to radiate through the snap-on joint. The RP-TNC plug 122392RP uses a threaded coupling and is rated for 11 GHz, but it is a different mechanical interface entirely — it will not mate with an MCX jack. The 919-386P-51S mates only with MCX female receptacles such as the 919-382J-51P.
