MCX Snap-On Plug for RG-178/196 — 50 Ohm to 6 GHz
The 919-389P-51A is an Amphenol RF MCX-series plug connector, configured as a male pin with snap-on coupling. The connector terminates to RG-178, RG-178A, RG-178B, RG-196, RG-196A, or M17/93-RG178 cable via a solder contact and crimped shield termination.
What the 6 GHz and 500-Cycle Ratings Mean
The 6 GHz frequency ceiling is the practical limit for this MCX interface — beyond that, the snap-on geometry and dielectric materials (POM acetal and PTFE) introduce impedance discontinuities that degrade return loss. The 500 mating-cycle rating is typical for a snap-on RF connector; the gold-plated centre contact resists wear through repeated connect-disconnect cycles in test setups or field-swappable modules. The nickel-plated brass body provides adequate RF shielding for indoor and controlled-environment use, though it lacks the corrosion resistance of stainless for outdoor or marine deployment.
Kit Contents and Field Assembly
The end cap and ferrule are crimped over the cable braid after the centre conductor is soldered to the pin.
