What This Backshell Does in the AHDP Assembly
The Amphenol DuraMate AHDPBS-0406-003 is a two-piece backshell for the AHDP series of circular connectors, shell size 24. It clamps over the cable jacket after the connector is terminated, providing strain relief and a sealing surface for the rear of the connector assembly. The 180° cable exit routes the cable straight out the back, and the 1 11/16-12 UN thread mates directly to the matching thread on the AHDP plug or receptacle backshell adapter. The cable opening range is 0.768" to 0.949" (19.50 mm to 24.10 mm). Black thermoplastic construction keeps the weight down and resists corrosion in industrial and marine environments. It is unshielded, so if your application needs EMI/RFI protection at the backshell, you will need a shielded variant or an add-on ferrule.
Thread and Shell Size — Getting the Mating Right
The 1 11/16-12 UN thread is the standard rear thread for Amphenol AHDP size 24 connectors. This is the same thread used on the back end of the AHDP receptacle and plug inserts. The backshell screws onto that thread, and the two-piece clamp then tightens around the cable. No adapters needed — it is a direct mechanical and thread match for any AHDP size 24 connector. The backshell's outside diameter is 1.811" (46.00 mm).
Cable Preparation and Assembly
This is a two-piece backshell — the two halves separate, wrap around the cable, and then clamp together with the supplied hardware. The cable opening range of 0.768" to 0.949" means the inner diameter of the backshell's cable entry is adjustable within that span. For a reliable seal and strain relief, the cable jacket should be a snug fit — not loose enough to let the backshell slide, and not so tight that the clamp distorts the cable. If your routing requires a right-angle exit, you need a different backshell — this one is for straight-through cable management only.
If you need a shielded backshell or a different cable exit angle, you will need to look at other members of the AHDP backshell family — the AHDPBS-0406-003 is the unshielded, straight-exit version for size 24.
