The 100 Ohm characteristic impedance matches the differential pair requirement for automotive Ethernet (BroadR-Reach / 100BASE-T1) and LVDS camera links. The gold-plated center contacts on copper alloy keep the signal path corrosion-free through the 25 mating cycles the connector is rated for — that cycle count is low enough that this part is best suited for a one-time assembly or a bench-level test point, not a daily-disconnect harness.
Mating Cycles and Field Service Reality
Rated for 25 mating cycles, this plug is not designed for frequent field disconnect. The gold-on-copper-alloy center contact resists fretting corrosion within that cycle budget, but the tin-finished zinc body will show wear if cycled past the rating. For a production harness that mates once at the assembly plant and stays mated, the 25-cycle rating is more than adequate. If your service procedure requires repeated unmate/remate, look at the HSD family members with higher cycle-life plating — the contact finish, not the housing, is the limit.
