What the PSMP interface solves that SMP doesn't
The Amphenol RF PSMP-MSLD-PCE is a blind-mate RF jack (male pin) in the PSMP connector family — a smaller, higher-frequency sibling to SMP that still holds a 50 Ohm impedance path through a snap-on interface. Where SMP uses a full-detent retention that can be stiff to engage and prone to galling after repeated cycles, this part carries a limited detent feature: the snap-on force is lower, making it the right choice for board-to-board RF interconnects where the connectors are mated and unmated more than a handful of times. The 500-cycle rating backs that up — this is a test-port or modular-radio interface, not a one-and-done cable connection.
Frequency, impedance, and the 10 GHz ceiling
Rated to 10 GHz at a 50 Ohm impedance, the PSMP-MSLD-PCE covers L-band through X-band — radar, satellite comms, microwave backhaul, and spectrum analyzers all sit inside that window. The 480 V voltage rating is a secondary spec here; the real constraint is the frequency-dependent return loss, which the datasheet plots.
Mounting that saves board height
The mounting style — board edge cutout plus surface mount — is unusual for an RF jack. Instead of a through-hole launch that eats up layers, the PSMP-MSLD-PCE sits at the board edge and solders to the surface pads. This keeps the overall stack low, which matters when the connector is on a mezzanine card or a lid-constrained enclosure. The gold body and brass center contact with gold plating resist corrosion in humid or salt-fog environments common in outdoor telecom.
