ZIF Actuator and FPC Loading
The SFW16R-3STE1LF: The slide-lock ZIF actuator opens the contact beams so the FPC slides in without force — no prying or bending of the 0.30 mm or 0.33 mm thick flex. Once the FPC is seated, the slide lock pushes the contacts onto the pads and holds them under spring pressure — the latch prevents the cable from backing out under vibration.
Current and Cycle Life
20 mating cycles is the rated endurance — the connector is designed for one-time assembly or occasional field service, not repeated disconnect. Tin plating on the contact face limits cycle life compared to gold; for higher reconnect duty, look at the gold-plated variants in the SFW-R family.
Sibling Comparison: Bottom vs Top Contact
The SFW16R-3STE1LF uses bottom contacts — the FPC pads face down toward the PCB. The sibling SFW16R-2STE1LF is otherwise identical (same pitch, same 16 positions, same ZIF slide lock) but uses top contacts, where the FPC pads face up. Choose bottom contact when the FPC circuit traces must be on the component side of the flex.
