Product details

The Amphenol SMP-FS2A-696 is a straight, in-line SMP-to-SMP adapter that converts one SMP plug, female socket to another SMP plug, female socket — same-series, same-gender on both ends. It is a barrel-style interconnect for extending or re-routing an SMP signal path without changing the connector family. The gold-plated beryllium copper body and gold-plated centre contacts keep the RF path stable across those frequencies, and the PTFE dielectric maintains consistent impedance through the transition. Snap-on fastening on both ends means it mates with standard SMP jacks using the familiar push-to-engage, pull-to-disconnect cycle — no threads, no torque spec.

The 100-Mating-Cycle Limit — What That Means for Field Service

The adapter is rated for 100 mating cycles. That is the guaranteed number of full mate-unmate cycles before the contact resistance or retention force may drift outside the SMP interface spec. For a test-bench or production-line interconnect that gets cycled daily, 100 cycles is a consumable — plan a spare. For a permanent in-system jumper that is mated once and left, 100 cycles is effectively unlimited. The gold plating on both the body and centre contacts supports the full cycle count without fretting corrosion. The snap-on retention uses a spring-loaded collet on the SMP plug side; after repeated cycles the collet loses some grip, which is why the cycle rating exists.

Frequently asked questions

What is the impedance of the SMP-FS2A-696?
