The free-hanging (in-line) housing lets the cable route directly into an enclosure without a board mount, and the polarizing key prevents a reversed mate against the matching header.

Mating and Harness Fit
The IDC termination requires a mass-termination press to punch the contacts through the ribbon cable insulation in one stroke; individual crimping is not possible here.
