Board-to-Board Mezzanine Stacking with the DF17
The Hirose DF17(3.0)-80DS-0.5V(57) is an 80-position receptacle with center strip contacts, part of the DF17 series of fine-pitch board-to-board interconnects. It uses a 0.020" (0.50mm) pitch and arranges the contacts in two rows, giving you 80 circuits in a compact footprint that suits dense mezzanine layouts. The gold-plated contacts handle signal-level duty with reliable wipe across repeated mating cycles. This receptacle mates with the matching DF17 series plug header to create a board-to-board connection at one of three mated stacking heights: 5mm, 5.5mm, or 7mm.
Stack Height Options and the Gap
The three supported mated stacking heights — 5mm, 5.5mm, and 7mm — let you tune the gap between parallel PCBs. The height above board of this receptacle is 0.138" (3.50mm), so the plug header accounts for the rest of the stack. The 0.50mm pitch gives enough routing density between the boards without forcing an overly tight keep-out zone around the connector. At the extremes of the stack, the contact wipe has to seat reliably; the board guide takes some of the misalignment strain off the signal pins during mating.
