50-Position Micro-Coax Plug at 0.40 mm Pitch
The Hirose DF36-50P-0.4SD(55) is a 50-position plug from the DF36 series, designed for micro-coax or ultra-fine discrete wire interconnects. Its 0.016" (0.40 mm) pitch packs 50 circuits into a single row, making it the highest position-count member of the DF36 plug family. The connector terminates 42-46 AWG wire via solder cups — a necessity at this wire gauge where crimp terminals are impractical. Gold-plated outer shroud contacts and a latch holder fastening system provide secure mating in compact, high-density cable assemblies.
Wire Gauge and Termination Reality
The 42-46 AWG wire gauge range is the defining constraint for this connector. At this wire diameter, standard crimp terminals are not available — the DF36-50P-0.4SD(55) uses solder termination, where each conductor is soldered directly into the contact cup. This suits micro-coax (e.g., 46 AWG coax for camera modules) or fine magnet wire in compact handheld devices.
Position Count and Series Positioning
At 50 positions, this plug sits at the top of the DF36 position range. The same-series DF36-45P-0.4SD(51) and DF36-40P-0.4SD(51) share the identical 0.40 mm pitch, single-row layout, gold contacts, and latch holder — the only difference is circuit count. For a 50-circuit BOM line, the DF36-50P-0.4SD(55) is the correct fit; the 45- or 40-position siblings would leave circuits unpopulated or require a different receptacle.
