0.40mm Pitch, 3mm Stack — the DF40 Mezzanine Receptacle
The Hirose DF40HC(3.0)-60DS-0.4V(51) is a 60-position receptacle from the DF40 series of board-to-board mezzanine connectors. It uses a 0.016" (0.40mm) pitch across two rows, with a height above board of 0.114" (2.90mm) that combines with the mating header to produce a fixed 3mm mated stacking height. This is a center-strip-contact design — the contacts are arranged in a dense grid along the centerline of the connector body, not along the outer edges. The part is surface-mount only, supplied in Tape & Reel packaging for automated pick-and-place.
Position Count Is the Only Variable
The DF40HC(3.0) family shares the same 0.40mm pitch, 2.90mm board height, 3mm stack, gold flash, and SMT termination across all position counts. The 60-position variant sits between the 50-position DF40HC(3.0)-50DS-0.4V(51) and the 70-position DF40HC(3.0)-70DS-0.4V(51). A 44-position version also exists. There is no difference in footprint class or routing density — the only selection criterion is the number of signal lines the board design requires. A panel or board laid out for the 70-position version will not accept this 60-position part without a new footprint; the extra contacts simply aren't there.
Gold Flash — One-Time Mate, Not Field Service
The 2.00µin gold contact finish is a thin flash, typical for mezzanine connectors that mate once during board assembly and rarely if ever disconnect in the field. This is not a connector rated for dozens or hundreds of mating cycles — treat it as a permanent interconnect after the initial board stack. If the application requires repeated board separation (for firmware updates, rework, or field-swappable modules), look for a heavier gold plating grade or a different connector family.
