VHDCI Receptacle for High-Density I/O — 20 Positions, Solder Eyelet Termination
The HIROSE FI40B-20S-CV5(50) is a 20-position VHDCI receptacle from the FI series, designed for high-density external I/O connections in servers, storage arrays, and RAID enclosures. The VHDCI (Very High Density Cable Interconnect) form factor packs 20 circuits into a compact 2-row shroud, with outer shroud contacts that shield the signal pins — a standard interface for SCSI and SAS cabling. This is a cable-end receptacle, free-hanging (in-line) mounting, terminated via solder eyelets rather than crimp or IDC, which means field assembly requires a soldering iron and heat-shrink, not a crimp tool. The built-in backshell provides strain relief and a degree of EMI containment for the cable bundle.
Contacts are finished with 11.8µin (0.30µm) of gold over the base metal. That plating thickness is standard for a moderate mating-cycle duty — enough for several hundred insertions in a lab or field-service environment without the contact fretting that tin contacts would show. The gold layer also resists corrosion in non-sealed environments, which matters for a cable-end connector that may live behind a server bezel or inside a rack cabinet.
