That range means a single FX8C-100S-SV(92) on the BOM can serve across multiple board-spacing designs — the same receptacle, just paired with the appropriate-height header. For a board layout engineer, this simplifies inventory: you stock one receptacle part and vary the header height to match the enclosure's z-height requirement. The 0.156" (3.96mm) height above board for the receptacle itself is fixed, so the stack height variation comes entirely from the header side.
This receptacle mates with the FX8C series header (base product number FX8). The mating header determines the final stack height — choose the header height that matches your required board gap from the 5mm to 11mm range. The board guide on the receptacle aligns with the header's guide posts, so the connector self-centers during mating; without that guide, the fine 0.60mm pitch contacts would be prone to stubbing during hand-assembly or reflow.
