Product details

The Hirose GT5-1P/S-R is a single-position retainer from the GT5 series, designed as a secondary lock for GT5 Housings. Molded in Gray Polybutylene Terephthalate (PBT), it snaps into the housing after the terminals are inserted to confirm full seating and prevent back-out under vibration. This is the part that gives the GT5 wire-to-board connector system its terminal position assurance (TPA) — without it, a loose terminal can back out of the cavity during harness flex or thermal cycling.

Position Count and Series Fit

The GT5-1P/S-R is the single-position version of the GT5 retainer family. For a 4-position harness, the GT5-4P/S-R covers all four cavities with one retainer piece. The GT5-2P/S-R covers two positions. Match the retainer position count to the number of loaded cavities in the GT5 housing — a single-position retainer only locks one terminal, so a 4-circuit harness needs four GT5-1P/S-R retainers or one GT5-4P/S-R.

Compatibility and Assembly Note

This retainer is specified for use with GT5 Housings — the full series, not a single housing order code. The PBT body provides the same chemical resistance and thermal range as the housing material. On the assembly line, the retainer snaps in after the crimp terminal is fully seated; the audible click confirms the TPA is locked. Cap the open half of an unmated GT5 housing — the retainer holds the terminals in place, but the seal integrity depends on the housing being mated with its counterpart.

Frequently asked questions

What is the GT5-1P/S-R used for?

The GT5-1P/S-R is a retainer — a secondary lock that snaps into GT5 Housings after the terminals are inserted. It provides terminal position assurance (TPA) to prevent terminal back-out under vibration or thermal cycling in wire-to-board harness assemblies.

Which housings are compatible with the GT5-1P/S-R retainer?

The GT5-1P/S-R is designed for use with GT5 Housings across the series. Match the retainer position count to the number of loaded cavities in the housing.
