What This Housing Does in a Harness
The Hirose GT8E-5S-HU is a 5-position single-row plug housing from the GT8E series, built for free-hanging crimp-terminated wire-to-board or wire-to-wire interconnects. The 2.00 mm pitch keeps the assembly compact while leaving enough room between contacts for reliable crimp termination with standard tooling. The latch lock on the housing body gives a positive audible click when mated — that lock is what keeps the connection from backing out under vibration in a cabinet or on moving equipment.
Mating Half and Field Fit
This plug housing mates with the corresponding GT8E series header (male pin header) of the same 5-position count and 2.00 mm pitch. The latch lock on the plug engages with a matching ramp on the header shroud — you hear it click when the pair is fully seated. In the field, if a harness is already terminated with GT8E female crimp contacts, this housing drops into the existing wiring as a direct replacement for a damaged or missing plug. The free-hanging (in-line) mounting means no board footprint is needed — it terminates a cable assembly that plugs into a panel-mounted or board-mounted header.
