Keyed Orientation and Solder Cup Termination
The connector is keyed, meaning the shell has a mechanical alignment feature that prevents the plug from being inserted into the receptacle in the wrong orientation — important when multiple connectors of the same shell size are ganged in a panel. Termination is solder cup: each male pin has a cup-shaped end that accepts a stripped wire, which is then hand-soldered. This is a field-service-friendly termination method, though it requires a skilled operator and is slower than crimp. The backshell, clamp, and strain relief are included — the clamp grips the cable jacket, and the strain relief prevents the solder joints from taking the cable load.
Silver-Plated Contacts: Mating Cycle Life and Corrosion
Silver offers lower contact resistance than tin and good corrosion resistance in dry indoor environments, but it tarnishes in atmospheres containing sulphur or high humidity. Derate the current if the operating temperature approaches the upper end of the range.
