The Hirose HR30-8P-12P(71) is a 12-position circular plug with male pins, part of the HR30 series. It uses a push-pull fastening mechanism for quick inline mate and unmate — no twisting, no lock ring. The shell is black PBT with a molded-in keyway, so it only mates one way with the matching receptacle. Rated IP67/IP68 when mated, this plug seals against dust and water immersion, which puts it in the same class as M8/M12 circulars but with a smaller shell size 8 package. Typical applications are industrial sensors, marine electronics, and medical devices where a washdown-rated or splash-proof interconnect is needed.
Cable entry and termination — what fits
This plug accepts cable jackets between 0.244" and 0.276" (6.20 mm to 7.00 mm) OD. The backshell and integrated strain relief clamp down on the cable jacket, not the individual wires — so the cable OD is the only dimension that matters for fit. Termination is solder cup: each male pin has a cup that accepts tinned stranded wire, then gets soldered. No crimp tool needed, but the joint relies on the solder fillet for mechanical retention, so a heat-shrink boot over the backshell is standard practice in wet environments. The PPS insert and backshell hold up to the soldering iron temperature without melting. Gold mating contacts with 8.00 µin (0.203 µm) thickness handle the corrosion side of the IP67 seal — the gold layer prevents oxidation in the sealed cavity, so the contact resistance stays stable through repeated mate cycles in humid or salt-spray conditions.
Ratings that matter for the circuit
The 2 A limit is conservative for the contact size; the real constraint is the temperature rise inside the sealed shell, which has no airflow. The 30 VAC / 42 VDC voltage rating is typical for low-voltage industrial and marine control circuits.
