SMA Plug for Coax Cable — 50 Ohm Line, 1 GHz Ceiling
The Hirose HRM-200-2-C(40) is an SMA-style plug with a male pin, built for 50 Ohm coax lines and rated to 1 GHz maximum frequency. It belongs to the HRM series and accepts cable group 1.5D-2V — a common thin-diameter coax used in short-run RF interconnects and test leads. The 1 GHz ceiling covers sub-GHz ISM bands, cellular, GPS, and most two-way radio applications, but it won't carry higher microwave bands — if your signal runs above 1 GHz, you need a different SMA variant.
Field Wiring and Termination Checklist
This is a field-installable plug: the centre contact is soldered, the shield is crimped, and the body threads on with a threaded fastening system. For cable group 1.5D-2V, the shield crimp die and centre contact solder pot must match that cable's outer braid diameter and centre conductor gauge — using the wrong crimp die collapses the braid or leaves it loose, and PIM shows up immediately on a sweep. The body is stainless steel with a gold finish, which resists corrosion in outdoor or humid environments better than nickel-plated brass. The dielectric is PTFE, so the phase stability across temperature is solid for a plug in this class. Rated for 1000 mating cycles — that's high for an SMA; most commodity SMAs spec 500 cycles. The gold-over-brass centre contact keeps contact resistance low through those cycles, provided the mating receptacle's centre socket is also gold-plated.
