Sealed Circular Receptacle for Harsh Environments
The Hirose JR13WR-5S(31) is a 5-position circular receptacle from the JR-W series, built around the shell size 13 insert. It carries IP67/IP68 sealing when mated — dust-tight and submersible — which makes it a natural fit for automotive underhood, industrial washdown zones, and outdoor telecom cabinets where moisture or debris is the failure mode. The threaded coupling and keyed orientation prevent cross-mating and hold the pair tight under vibration. Rated 5A per contact at 100VAC or 140VDC, with silver-plated copper alloy contacts (78.7µin / 2.00µm plating thickness) — the silver gives good conductivity for power duty in the 5A range, and the plating thickness supports regular mating cycles in a service environment. Termination is solder cup — each contact gets a hand-soldered wire, which is typical for field-terminated circular connectors where a crimp tool is impractical. The housing is an aluminum alloy with black chromium finish, and the insert material is phenol formaldehyde (PF), a thermoset that holds up to the soldering heat and resists tracking in humid conditions.
Panel Mount and Sealing Details
Mounts through a panel cutout using the integral flange — no rear nut or jam nut required. The IP67/IP68 seal is achieved with a panel gasket (not included) that compresses between the flange and the panel face. The threaded coupling ring on the mating plug engages the receptacle threads; the O-ring seal is on the plug side, so the IP rating is only guaranteed with the correct JR-W series mating plug fully tightened. The shell material is an aluminum alloy with a black chromium finish — the chromium layer adds corrosion resistance beyond a standard nickel plate, which matters in salt-spray or chemical-wash environments.
