MMCX right-angle plug for RG-316 — what it is and what it does
The Hirose MMCX-LP-316/U(40) is a 50 Ohm MMCX plug, male pin, terminated for RG-316 cable. It ships as a two-piece kit — the connector body and a heat shrink tube to seal the cable entry.
Termination — how this plug attaches to RG-316
The centre conductor solders into the phosphor bronze pin; the braid is crimped onto the shell body. The included heat shrink tube slides over the cable-to-shell joint after termination to add strain relief and environmental sealing at the cable exit. This is a field-terminable assembly — no special tooling beyond a solder iron and a crimp tool for the shield.
RF performance — 50 Ohm through 6 GHz
Rated to 6 GHz with a 50 Ohm impedance, this plug covers the L-band through C-band sub-6 GHz spectrum — GPS, Wi-Fi, cellular, and ISM-band radios all fit within the passband. The PTFE dielectric maintains consistent impedance through the interface, and the snap-on mate keeps the centre contact alignment repeatable across the 500-cycle life.
