SMP Receptacle for 30 GHz Signal Paths
The Hirose SMP-PR(SB)-SMT-1 is a 50 Ohm SMP receptacle with a male centre pin, designed for blind-mate board-to-board and cable-to-board RF interconnects up to 30 GHz. It belongs to the SMP-P series of push-on connectors and carries the smooth bore feature — meaning the outer conductor has no detent bumps, which gives it a lower insertion force and a higher mating cycle rating than the limited- or full-detent siblings.
1000 Mating Cycles — Smooth Bore vs. Detent Variants
The SMP-PR(SB)-SMT-1 is the smooth bore member of the SMP-P receptacle family. Its 1000 mating cycles are double the 500 cycles of the limited-detent SMP-PR(LD)-SMT-1 and ten times the 100 cycles of the full-detent SMP-PR(FD)-SMT-1. The trade-off is retention force: smooth bore gives a lower push-on/pull-off force, which makes it the right choice for applications that see frequent reconnection — test fixtures, modular instruments, and board-to-board interconnects that are mated and unmated during assembly or service. For a permanent or semi-permanent installation where vibration resistance matters more than cycle life, the limited- or full-detent variants provide higher axial retention.
Surface Mount with Solder Shield Termination
This receptacle is surface-mount with the shield termination soldered directly to the PCB ground plane — critical for maintaining the 50 Ohm controlled impedance through the launch. The SMT package ships on Tape & Reel for automated pick-and-place assembly. The board footprint must match the SMP launch geometry — the centre pin height above the board surface and the ground-plane clearance determine the impedance through the transition.
