The Hirose TM2REA-1812(50) is a 6p4c (RJ11, RJ14) modular jack from the TM-DS series, configured as a three-port right-angle through-hole component. It accepts standard 6-position RJ plugs wired for 4 conductors — the common pinout for single-line telephony and basic data links. Gold-plated phosphor bronze contacts provide corrosion resistance for the moderate mating cycles typical of desk equipment or wall-plate applications.
Board lock and panel stops
Board lock features anchor the jack through the solder cycle, resisting the shear force from plug insertion and cable tug. Panel stops set the depth when the jack seats against a chassis cutout, so the face aligns flush with the panel — no shimming or secondary alignment. The housing is polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), a common telecom-grade thermoplastic with good dimensional stability through wave solder.
6p4c vs 6p6c — matching the plug wiring
The TM2REA-1812(50) carries 6p4c contacts — four conductors in a six-position body — versus the TM2REA-1818(50) which uses 6p6c (all six positions populated). Both are three-port right-angle jacks with identical mechanical footprint, board-lock, and panel-stop features. The 6p4c variant is the correct choice when the mating plug only uses the centre four positions (pins 2-5 in standard RJ11/RJ14 wiring). If the circuit count calls for all six conductors — for example, RJ25 three-line telephony or a proprietary data pinout — step to the 6p6c sibling. The 6p4c jack will accept a 6p6c plug physically, but the outer two contacts are absent, so those circuits are open.
