SUR Series IDC Receptacle for 32 AWG Harnesses
The JST 16SUR-32S is a 16-circuit, single-row receptacle in the SUR series, terminated by insulation displacement (IDC) to discrete 32 AWG wire. The 0.031" (0.80 mm) pitch packs the 16 positions into a compact inline body — the tightest pitch in the SUR family, which means the mating header must match that exact spacing. The closed-end feature blocks the wire from pushing past the last contact during termination, a practical detail when the wire itself acts as the strain relief. Tin-plated female sockets handle the signal duty this pitch class is designed for; the natural (uncolored) housing is the standard SUR appearance.
IDC Termination — Wire Gauge and Tooling
This receptacle is built for 32 AWG discrete wire only — the IDC slot dimensions are tuned to that single gauge, not a range. The closed end means the wire stops at the last contact cavity, preventing over-insertion that would leave the terminal unseated. A standard IDC hand press or pneumatic tool with the SUR-series die set is what the harness shop reaches for.
The 16SUR-32S is a free-hanging (in-line) receptacle — it does not mount to a board. The single-row layout and the IDC termination make it a natural fit for ribbon-cable-style harnesses where the wire exits inline with the connector body.
