Receptacle Housing for KK396 Wire-to-Board Harnesses

Position Count and Pitch — Fit Check
The 3.96mm pitch is wider than the 2.54mm used on signal headers, so the board footprint is larger per circuit — but that extra space buys easier routing for thicker wire (typically 18-22 AWG) and better creepage for voltages up to 250 V. No other KK396 receptacle shares the same 3-circuit count at this pitch — the 2- and 4-circuit siblings exist, but they change the board layout.
This housing accepts Molex KK396 crimp terminals — the non-gendered contact type means the same terminal part number works for both the receptacle and the mating header. The crimp barrel accepts 18-24 AWG stranded wire. No secondary terminal position assurance (TPA) retainer is used on this series — the primary latch in the housing cavity holds the terminal. Strip length and crimp tooling follow the standard Molex hand-tool or semi-automatic applicator for KK396 contacts.
