14-Position IDC Receptacle for Ribbon or Discrete Wire
The 0.100" (2.54mm) pitch matches standard ribbon cable spacing, so a 14-conductor ribbon cable aligns directly with the contact slots.
Using a different wire size risks a poor connection or a slot that won't close fully. The wire type can be discrete (individual conductors) or ribbon cable, but the 0.100" pitch means a standard 14-conductor ribbon cable with 0.100" conductor spacing is a drop-in fit. The termination tool (a simple press or arbor press) pushes the cable into the slot; no stripping or crimping is required on the wire side. The female socket contacts are pre-loaded in the housing, so the assembly step is just cable insertion and pressing.
The closed-end feature means the header pins bottom out against the back wall of the receptacle, giving a positive stop that prevents over-insertion.
