Because the header is unshrouded, the 0.295" (7.49mm) long square pins are exposed during mating. A misaligned receptacle can bend pins, so a polarized or keyed mating housing is recommended — the KK254 crimp receptacle housings (series 6471 or 2695) provide a positive latch and guide the pins into the contacts.
