Cat4 Rating and What It Means

This jack is rated Cat4, which limits its usable frequency to 20 MHz — fine for voice (POTS) and 10BASE-T Ethernet, but not for 100BASE-TX or faster twisted-pair data. If the application is a legacy phone line or a low-speed control signal, the Cat4 rating is adequate. For anything above 10 Mb/s, you'd want a Cat5e or better jack.
