What this 0.35mm-pitch plug is for
The 0.014" (0.35mm) pitch and 0.019" (0.48mm) height above board put it squarely in the ultra-low-profile interconnect class — think stacked PCB assemblies inside a compact handheld or wearable device where the gap between boards is tighter than a standard mezzanine connector can fit.
At 0.35mm pitch, the routing density between pads is high enough that the board fabricator needs to know about it before the stack-up is locked. This is not a connector you drop into a 0.100"-pitch grid — the escape traces between pads will be narrow, and the via-in-pad or microvia approach is the norm. The 0.48mm seated height and 0.6mm mated stack height together set the z-budget: two parallel boards with this plug and its receptacle end up 0.6mm apart, which is about the thickness of two stacked FR4 layers.
Pick-and-place and solder retention are the features that make the SMT line work
A 14-position connector at 0.35mm pitch is small enough to be a handling challenge on a pick-and-place line. The pick-and-place surface and solder retention features are what let the nozzle grab it and hold it in place through reflow without tombstoning or skew.
