This connector is built for standard IEEE 1394a applications, commonly used in consumer electronics, industrial cameras, and data acquisition systems where a reliable, shielded digital interface is needed for up to 400 Mbps data rates.
The 6 contacts are arranged for the standard Firewire signal set — two differential pairs for data, one power pair, and a shield ground. The dual current rating (0.5A per signal contact, 1.5A per power contact) reflects the pin assignment in the 1394 specification; the power contacts handle bus-powered device current while the signal contacts carry low-current data lines. The 40V rating covers the Firewire power bus voltage. The full shield — phosphor bronze shell — grounds to the board plane, containing EMI from the high-speed differential pairs.
