80 A Power Blade Receptacle for Backplane Distribution
The Molex 782321001 is a 2-position power receptacle from the GbX I-Trac 78232 series, designed as a dedicated power interconnect for backplane and midplane assemblies. It carries female blade sockets rated 80 A per circuit — bus-level current that handles a main DC rail or a single-phase AC feed without sharing the signal path. The 2-power contact layout means this is a pure power connector, not a mixed-signal header. Termination is press-fit through-hole, which avoids the thermal stress of wave soldering and makes the connector field-replaceable with the right insertion tool. The connector is black, packaged in a box, and all 2 positions are loaded.
Press-Fit Backplane Fit
The press-fit termination is the key deployment detail here. It mates into plated through-holes on the backplane without solder, which means the assembly line skips the wave-solder step and the connector can be replaced if a blade gets damaged. The trade-off is that the PCB hole size and plating must match the press-fit compliant pin spec — standard for GbX I-Trac backplane designs. As a receptacle with female blade sockets, it mates with the corresponding male blade header from the same GbX I-Trac series. The 2-position layout is a straight power pair — no signal pins to confuse. The 80 A per circuit rating means the contact interface and the PCB trace feeding it need to handle that current; the connector itself is not the bottleneck.
