75 Ohm MCX Plug for RG-179 — Right-Angle, Snap-On
The Samtec MCX7-P-C-H-RA-CA3 is a 75 Ohm MCX plug from the TRUE75™ MCX7 series, designed for RG-179 cable. Rated to 4.5 GHz and 170 V, this connector is built for video, broadband, and other 75 Ohm RF signal paths where a compact, snap-lock interface is needed.
75 Ohm Impedance — Not Your Standard 50 Ohm MCX
Standard MCX connectors are 50 Ohm; this TRUE75™ variant keeps the same snap-on interface but matches 75 Ohm cable and system impedance — critical for video distribution, CCTV, and broadband data where a 50 Ohm stub would create a reflection. The 4.5 GHz max frequency is a practical ceiling for this impedance; the straight-mate sibling MCX7-P-C-H-ST-CA3 is rated to 6 GHz, so the right-angle bend in the RA-CA3 introduces a small additional discontinuity that limits the top end. For runs up to 4.5 GHz the right-angle body saves board-edge space without a separate adapter.
Termination Sequence — Solder Centre, Crimp Braid
Termination is a two-step process: solder the centre contact to the RG-179 centre conductor, then crimp the shield termination over the braid. The PTFE dielectric holds the centre pin concentric through the solder cycle.
