What This 3-Position IDC Receptacle Is
It terminates discrete or ribbon cable with 22-26 AWG wire directly via insulation displacement — no stripping or crimping. The housing is black, with a closed-end design that prevents contact stubbing during cable insertion.
IDC termination means the wire is pressed into a slot that slices through the insulation and grips the conductor — no crimp tool, no contact pre-loading. The 22-26 AWG range covers common signal wire gauges for ribbon cable and discrete harnesses. For 26 AWG, the slot bite is light but positive; for 22 AWG, the insulation thickness needs to be within the slot's tolerance — check the TE application tooling spec for the correct IDC hand tool or press.
Contact Plating and Mating Cycles
The gold layer resists corrosion on the contact interface, which matters if the harness lives in a cabinet with temperature swings or mild industrial atmosphere. The latch lock reduces fretting wear by keeping the mated halves from micro-moving under vibration.
